I've been noticing a trend lately. Red and black are hot colors! Just check out the great wedding invitation I created for Julie and Chris who are getting married right around Valentine's Day.
This invitation is a tri-fold with one of our Exquisite Embellishments and black satin ribbon. The side of the invite is hand-punched with a delicate pattern.
Inside includes the hand stamped invite, response card, and directions card. Don't you just love the red rose? Perfect for a Valentine's Day theme.
The response card and directions card are held in place by black satin ribbon.
Oh, and just one more gratuitous shot of that rhinestone buckle. I just love accessorizing with bling!
We have lots of bling and lots of colors to choose from for your custom wedding invitations. Just contact us for a free consultation.

One more post about my fun and unique couple in New York who are having a Broadway themed wedding. Here's their reception program. It's reminiscent of a Playbill from a real Broadway production.
This 12 page program was created digitally with photos and text supplied by the bride and printed on glossy magazine style paper. Each guest will receive one of these fun programs that outlines information about the bride and groom, their wedding party, and the actual play that they will be treated to during the reception.
Here's just one page inside that lists the vendors for the wedding. What a fun way to recognize everyone who helped with your special event.
Again, this was a project that stepped outside my normal work, but I loved every minute of it. I got to create digitally instead of on paper and work with great vendors for the printing and assembly.
If you need a unique wedding program or anything else for your wedding, be sure to contact Chic Ink.

I showed you the fun and unique ticket style escort cards I created for my couple who were having a Broadway style wedding. Now, here's a peek at their menus and table names.
Each table name is from a Broadway production, with the exception of the head table. It's called Love and Laughter because that's the name of the wedding.
The names were printed and hand stamped with a fun alphabet in brown ink. The cardstock is a burnt orange color and feature a brown satin ribbon tag at the top of the name.
The menus feature the same alphabet stamp and a more elegant font by request of the bride a groom.
Just looking at this menu is making me hungry! The same burnt orange cardstock and brown ink were used to carry the theme throughout the reception.
If you have a need for custom reception items like table numbers, menus, or anything else, be sure to give Chic Ink a call.

When I got a call from Rayna of Exquiseete Weddings in New York about a client she was working with who was having a Broadway themed wedding, I was immediately excited. One of the items the bride and groom requested were escort cards in the shape of actual tickets. Each of their tables were named after Broadway productions and they wanted their guests to feel like they were immersed in the theater experience. They even named their wedding production "Love and Laughter". Two important items in every marriage!
The couple wanted to give away their centerpieces at the end of their reception, so they requested that a portion of the escort card tickets be "tear-away" like a real ticket.
The right portion of their custom ticket style escort cards are perforated so they can toss those pieces in a basket for the drawing.
Other fun features on these unique escort cards include a bar code with their wedding date, individual numbers for each guest, and a chocolate brown backing for the tickets to display on a table.
This project was a step outside my normal requests, but I am so glad I had the opportunity to complete it. If you have a unique or different wedding theme, don't hesitate to contact Chic Ink. We'd love to help!

For those of you who frequent the Chic Ink blog, you know how much I love bling! This custom wedding invitation is no exception. The popular format of a gatefold is incorporated here. The light pink belly band is wrapped with brown satin ribbon and a handstamped initial with rhinestone accents.
Once you open the invite, you'll see more bling! The brown satin ribbon is threaded through a rhinestone square buckle on the top of the page. The side holds the response card tied with a pretty bow.
If you'd like a custom quote or your wedding or special event invitations, don't hesitate to contact Chic Ink. We look forward to hearing from you.

I so wish I was in Jamaica right now. The weather in Seattle is quite dreary. Oh well, at least I have Jen's fun destination wedding invite to create! This fun poppy orange and aqua blue boarding pass invitation was created for Jen and Paul. A super-lucky couple who are tying the knot in Jamaica next spring.
The boarding pass invitation is wrapped in a vellum pocket, just like the real ones you get at the travel agent! I tied a matching ribbon around the outside and included a cute bottle cap embellishment to give it that fun beachy feel.
If you'd like an estimate for your destination wedding invitations, be sure to contact Chic Ink.

I had the pleasure of meeting with some wonderful catering managers over at Newcastle Golf Club last week and it couldn't have been a more beautiful day. Now I know why this venue was nominated as The Best Sunset Wedding by Seattle Bride Magazine!
As a resident of Seattle's Eastside, I've been to Newcastle lots of times for dinner and a couple weddings. It is incredible! Let me show you a pic from their events website and you can see why it is a popular place to get hitched.

I'm so sad that I have finally finished all the products for Camille and Mike's awesome animal print wedding theme. It's time to pack away her animal print stamp set.
Here are her custom thank you cards that were handmade in our studio. They feature a turquoise stamp and hand embossed black "thanks so much" greeting.
The thank you card matches her wedding invitations, programs, favors, and wedding guest book.

I mentioned last week on Facebook that I was going on a wedding favor blitz. Here are a few that were created in our studio.
This love wedding favor box reminded me of a sports wedding with the fun pennants spelling out the true meaning of why everyone is celebrating - LOVE!
The cute pink and white twine hold the pennants in place. The box is large enough to hold peanuts or candy.
This purple wedding favor includes one of our new Exquisite Embellishments on the front of the box.
The textured front and white organdy ribbon add a touch of formal to this gorgeous favor box.

Cupcakes are the latest rage in entertaining. Not only are they completely adorable, but they are delicious, portable, and easy to serve.
When a client contacted us to create label cards for the cupcakes she was serving at her wedding, we were happy to oblige. She's serving 4 different kinds of cupcakes and they all sound delicious.
The gingerbread cupcake card features a textured base with pearl accents on the confetti white cardstock frosting.
The chocolate cupcake card features 2 different tones of chocolate with fun buttons and ribbon added as embellishments.
The white cupcake card features pink speckled cardstock with pink ribbon and rhinestones in pink and silver.
Finally, the yellow buttermilk cupcake card features 2 different textured cardstocks and a colorful border.
Chic Ink would love to help with any paper project you may need for your special event. Don't hesitate to contact us for a custom quote today.
I love this invitation.
When I showed it to my husband, he looked at me with a blank stare.
Him: "Why is there a chair on it?"
Me: "Because it's vintage, duh!"
I saw this stamp and had to have it.
It reminded me of two people sitting on a porch swing growing old together.
I added a couple tags to the chair with stamped words and adhered with some linen thread attached to a brad.
Okay, so be honest, do you like it? Do you get it?
As long as the bride and groom enjoy it, that's all that matters!
If you'd like a quote on your custom invitations, be sure to contact us!
We already showed you Camille's awesome wedding invitations and altered wedding book, now it's time to unveil her equally hip favors and programs. Camille wanted to combine her favors and escort cards; such a brilliant idea.
The same animal print stamp was used with black satin ribbon and black rhinestones. The "s" and "b" designate the entree choices for the guests. Now, I only hope they can leave them intact long enough for their reception dinner to be provided. Camille wanted turquoise, black, and white jordan almonds in the boxes. Yum!
Her wedding programs are 2 pages of white cardstock mounted on black and turquoise cardstock. They are tied together at the top with black satin ribbon.
If you would like a quote on custom favors and programs, be sure to contact us. Remember, favors and programs are just one of the many add-ons Chic Ink offers.
I am the first to admit that I am a girly-girl. I love everything pink! I love everything with jewels! I love everything with sparkle! That's why I was really excited to make this mock-up for a potential client. It contains everything that I love!
The elegant stamp features handstamped initials in a subtle gray color. The top of the flourish wouldn't be complete without a little bling - a rhinestone jewel. Finally, an all-over shine was added to this invitation with some pearlized spritz.
If you'd like a princess wedding complete with invitations perfect for royalty, be sure to contact us.
We just love it when couples get engaged. There's nothing more exciting than spreading the news of their upcoming wedding date, and we are so happy to be a part of that joy.
Take a look at the custom save the date card created for Lauren and Justin. The bride told me that they will be expecting around 300 guests and it will be a very formal affair.
The save the date features a handmade tag with a silver rim, red letter "C", and textured strips of cardstock. As a special touch, I also textured the envelope flap.

I've had this fabulous designer paper in the closet for quite awhile and was so excited when I finally got to use it. Check out this fun wedding invitation that is the epitome of shabby chic.
Fun squares of coordinating paper adorn the top of the invitation and the side of the response card. Of course I couldn't just leave those plain. Over the top of the squares are matching (but not too "matchy") vintage buttons tied with hemp twine.
I just loved creating this unique invitation. Would you like a FREE custom mock-up for your upcoming special event? Just contact us and we'll get to work right away!
One of my all-time favorites movies is Steel Magnolias. I could quote that entire film by heart! I have to say that one of the most memorable parts involves gray icing and an armadillo shaped groom's cake.
So, what is the deal with groom's cakes? The tradition of these funky cakes started in the south and are making a huge comeback. Originally designed to be given to the groom from the bride; slices of the cake were even given to the female guests to sleep on while they dream of their future husband.
The groom's cake is a time for the groom's personality to shine through. A dark cake is usually chosen and can be in the shape of anything. The more unusual, the better. Just check out some of the inspiration below.

I've been chatting with a bride in the Snoqualmie area and she really wanted to use Chic Ink for her invitations, but the timing just didn't work out. She was thrilled when I mentioned that we do more than just invitations. She decided she really wanted to wow her guests with custom thank you cards.
Her wedding colors were red, black, and white. Nothing more striking than that, right?
Here's her thank you cards.
The photo doesn't show it well, but there is a shimmer over the top of the embossed roses on the front of her cards. I can't wait to hear what the gift-givers think when they get these in the mail.

Do you have questions about your wedding stationery? Check out the most frequently asked questions we receive at Chic Ink.
1. Should I include registry information on my wedding invitation?
NO! Rely on word of mouth to spread the word about your registries. Sure, the department stores would love for you to send their cards in your invitation and advertise, but it puts too much emphasis on the gift and not the attendance.
Here's a tip: include your wedding registry information on your wedding website.
I met an amazing group of business-minded gals a few months ago and was so excited when they contacted me to make custom invitations for their Young Female Entrepreneurs Margarita Night.
Here's what we came up with.
We made the invite a non-standard size so the recipients would know it wasn't their standard junk mail when it arrived in their mailbox.
Custom sizing is just one of the many features we are proud to offer at Chic Ink. If you have a special event coming up and you want to spread the word in style, be sure to contact us.

We've all had the light-headed feeling when we've been in front of an audience before, right? Well, let's make sure that doesn't happen on your special day.
The most commom form of fainting happens because blood pressure drops, which reduces circulation to the brain and causes loss of consciousness. Typically an attack occurs while standing and is frequently preceded by a sensation of warmth, nausea, lightheadedness and visual "grayout."
A simple faint may occur due to anxiety, fear, pain, intense emotional stress, hunger or use of alcohol or drugs. Hmm, can anyone see why this is so common at weddings?!
On your wedding day, make sure you get plenty of fluids and remember to eat! The number one thing my Mom told me was to not lock your knees! Keep your legs slightly bent and hope that one of your wedding party will actually stop you from hitting the floor - unlike the poor folks in this video!
Fainting information gathered from WebMD. Be sure to consult your physician if you have any concerns about your condition.
At Chic Ink, we love to create unique wedding stationery. Save the date cards are just one of the many add-ons that match your entire wedding stationery ensemble when you order from Chic Ink.
In the past, the future bride and groom relied on word of mouth to spread the news about their upcoming nuptials. Now, most folks can't wait to share the good news! These cards allow for guests to plan their travel arrangements.
It's best to send save the dates out at least 4 months in advance, sometimes longer if you are planning a destination wedding or if your event falls on or around a major holiday.
Check out some of the save the dates created at Chic Ink.

We are very excited to offer custom wedding programs as a Chic Ink Add-on. All programs feature your wedding colors, theme, and embellishments. Take a look at the most recent program we just completed.

I was surfing the web the other day and ran across this hilarious video. I just had to share it with you all. Enjoy!
I saw the folks at Edit 1 Media when I attended the Seattle Wish Upon a Wedding Launch party in May. These guys work some serious magic with their video cameras! If you need a lasting memory for your special day - don't hesitate to contact them.
1. How long have you been doing wedding videos?
We started dabbling in videography in 1997 when our son was diagnosed with cancer for the second time at the age of 2-1/2 and we were told his chances at surviving were very slim. That eventually led to small personal and corporate jobs and eventually weddings for friends and co-workers. In 1999 we realized we were really good at filming weddings and haven’t looked back since! Thankfully our son is now 15 years old and he is our daily inspiration!
2. What makes you different than other videographers?
Our history with the possibility of losing our son made us realize that while photos are awesome and can capture beautiful moments, video breathes life in to those moments with movement and sound. You can see facial expressions change and there are so many emotions that go on during the course of a wedding day...some that aren’t even noticed until the video is seen later on. For instance the look on a mom’s face when she steps back to see her daughter fully dressed as a bride, or the look of awe followed by tears when the groom see his bride for the first time. We seem to have a knack for finding those moments and bringing them out to “maximum emotional impact”. We strive to make every video we create the best one we’ve ever done and pour our souls in to them and this is accomplished through both skillful shooting and the magic of editing. Another thing that makes us unique is our amazing “Same Day Edit”....this is where we take footage shot before and during the ceremony, edit it on-site, then show it during the reception. It’s a spectacular way to share those moments before the ceremony with guests who don’t get to see that part of the day, and even though the ceremony just happened hours earlier, seeing it on the big screen with music and all the different angles is a highly emotional experience that is truly unique to that wedding.
3. Do you have any fun stories or memorable events? Anyone have a weird or unique request?
I have so many stories and unique requests that I think I could write a book! We have been fortunate enough to have quite a few couples ask us to film their destination wedding and have been to Mexico, Hawaii, Florida and even Italy. But a recent unique request that comes to mind is when a Canadian couple decided to have their wedding here in Seattle and the bride wanted to surprise her groom before the ceremony with a helicopter ride around Seattle. The only thing is that she didn’t tell us until midnight before the wedding. To shoot video in a helicopter requires some special equipment to get steady shots so we had to scramble on the morning of the wedding to rent the right gear, but we did and Chris got some really great shots of them!
4. Any tips/advice for brides who are shopping for videographers?
Watch as much work as possible. Anyone can make a decent compilation demo from 20 different weddings, but you want to make sure there is consistent high quality throughout their work. Look for proper exposure, good audio, steady shots and that the editing and music enhances the video rather than detracting from it or being an afterthought. Remember this is NOT an area to skimp! Just like your photos, your video is the only thing you have to remember your wedding by and it will become more and more valuable as your life goes on. You get what you pay for and in 20 years you won’t be thinking “Gee, I’m really glad I saved $1000 by getting a cheap videographer”. This is an investment and there are no second takes, so take your time to properly research and treat it as a high priority. We have clients all the time who come back to us years later saying how happy they are that they chose to hire us and that they STILL watch their video all the time...THAT is a good investment!

A fun trend that I've been seeing a lot of are "Trash the Dress" photography sessions. When I got married 11 years ago, this wasn't even an option. I never dreamed of jumping in a lake, smearing paint on my dress, or some other creative way to put an end to my wedding dress. However, the savvy brides these days realize that they probably won't reuse or sell their wedding dress, so why not get some fun pictures taken?
I heard about this book from a friend and had to check it out. It has 150 mistakes you should avoid when planning your wedding. The best part is the price tag. It's only $10.36 at Amazon.com and qualifies for free shipping when you spend $25.
Once you get it, write to me and let me know which mistake you almost made when planning your wedding. I know I had quite a few I committed 11 years ago!
I received a call about 2 weeks ago with a request for invitations to a reception honoring a couple who had recently tied the knot. The Mother of the groom asked if I could incorporate a bit of their heritage - hers from Thailand and his from the Pacific Northwest. Let me know if you think I pulled it off.
I bleached the edges of the light blue cardstock with an Aquapainter and stamped grass over the olive colored cardstock. The brown grosgrain ribbon is gathered at one side with a bit of linen thread.
This was a fun project to work on and was so glad that I could finish these on her timeline. Things are really picking up at Chic Ink.
If you are considering ordering custom invitations soon, now is the time to get on the schedule. Contact us today for a personalized quote.
When Diana approached me about making her wedding invitations to her long time love, Carl, she had 2 requests:
I had such a great time working with her and Carl on their design. They chose a cute partridge stamp in turquoise with light brown accents. Oh, and you can't overlook the glitter on both her invitation and response card.
I won't show you a picture of my desk after finishing these. Let's just say there is a pretty sparkle on the top of my work mat that won't come off. And I don't think I want it to - it's a great reminder of a fabulous invitation to a happy couple's nuptials.
